Role of individual Health records|Nursing
The My Health Record system was first introduced by the Australian Government in 2012 and allows people seeking health care in Australia to register for a My Health Record. My Health Record is an online summary of the key health information of all Australian Citizens. It contains key health information drawn from the existing electronic records of multiple healthcare providers involved in a patient’s care, including their general practitioner. The patient can control what information goes into it and which organisations have access to their record. Over the past few weeks there has been much contentious debate about this e-Health Solution relating to privacy, security and a vigorous discussion whether or not the system should be ‘opt in’ or ‘opt out’. When one “opts in” to a program, they expressly give their consent to being part of the program. When one “opts out” of a program, they are expressly indicating that they DO NOT wish to be part of the program. You will require to undertake some additional research on the issue of ‘opt in’ or ‘opt out’ approaches to e-Health and argue the point for or against (an opt in or opt out system).
