Module 7 Assignment– CV & Introductory Letter
1. Develop a professional CV (Curriculum Vita) which means course of life in Latin
There are three major differences between CVs and resumes: the length, the purpose, and the layout.
A CV is very detailed and can stretch well beyond two pages. A CV is an in-depth document that can be laid out over two or more pages and it contains a high level of detail about your achievements, a great deal more than just a career biography. The CV covers your education as well as any other accomplishments like publications, awards, honors, etc. A CV has a clear chronological order, listing the whole career of the individual.
A resume is a brief summary of your skills and experience over one or two pages.
A professional NP CV/Resume does not include time working in any position outside of an RN. It does not include time spent as an MA, lab tech or unit secretary.
2. Develop an appropriate introductory letter to a potential employer’s office manager, that is 1-2 pages at most. Within the body of the letter, you should identify yourself as a new NP, tell the employer why you are interested in the position, and your qualifications. Offer a brief personal philosophy of the Advance Practice Nursing (APN) role, what you can contribute to the practice, potential obstacles you foresee and professional goals. You should address the letter to the “Office Manager” at either your current place of employment or for a position that you would like to have with another employer. Addressing a letter to a physician with whom you have worked with and not their office manager is not appropriate.
