Describe and analyze each artwork using at least 3 of the most relevant elements of art and principles of design terms.

Choose a work of art from three different eras and include the following identifying information (if available): title, artist, date artwork was created, medium, and culture/period.

Describe and analyze each artwork using at least 3 of the most relevant elements of art and principles of design terms. Take into consideration the artworks style based on the readings this week and utilize relevant vocabulary we have learned this week. (Elements of art and principles of design are defined in the Week One Online Lecture as well as the downloadable handouts under Week One Reading.)

Integrate your visual analysis into the larger theme of context. Address how the subject and style of each artwork reflects the historical and cultural context of the period. Think about the culture in which the work was created. What does the works appearance and its choice of art elements and design principles tell us about the cultural beliefs and meaning?

Original Artwork:

The original art assignment for this week is to create a work of art based on political and/or religious propaganda inspired by one of the following cultures: Etruscan, Ancient Roman, Early Christian, and Byzantine Art.. Many works of art from this weeks readings were created to convey a certain religious or political message. Inspired by one or more specific artworks, imagine the best way to convey a religious or political message in regards to medium, content and styles we see this week. Similar to the instructions of Week 2 Assignment 2, your original artwork can be done in the media of your choice and should reflect the period or cultures style.

Compose a written description of your artwork explaining your creative process, the artwork(s) that inspired you, and their style. Explain how your artwork reflects the religious and/or political propaganda of a culture we are studying this week. How did the style and culture guide your choices in creating your work of art and in choosing the medium (materials) to accurately capture a specific style?
