Identify at least five needs of employees in the police organizations in the U.S.
Criminal justice organizations are forever striving to meet infinite demands with finite resources. Reducing crime, assisting victims of crime, and working with offenders so they can get out of life of crime are daunting and challenging tasks. But they are doable and can be effectively addressed with motivated employees. Criminal justice administrators understand that engendering positive work environments will go a long way toward creating a climate of motivation, even during very tight budgetary times.
A number of theories have been developed to explain motivation. Abraham Maslows “need theory” is the most recognized theory of motivation.
In your research project, your task is to discuss how “need theory” applies to criminal justice process and its personnel. This is what you are expected to do in your project:
1. Explain the concepts and assumptions of “need theory”
2. Identify at least five needs of employees in the police organizations in the U.S.
3. Using the assumptions of “need theory”, explain how those needs can be adequately met in police organizations to create a climate of motivation
4. Discuss the potential problems in identifying and meeting the needs of employees in police organizations
