Does the fact that women currently earn only seventy-three cents for every dollar that men earn qualify as serious discrimination?

Claims of Fact or Definition are about facts that are not easily determined or about definitions that are debatable. People do disagree about some supposed “facts”: Are polygraph tests accurate? Do grades measure achievement? People also disagree about definitions: Gender discrimination exists in the marketplace, but is it “serious”? What is discrimination, anyway? And what constitutes “serious” discrimination? Does the fact that women currently earn only seventy-three cents for every dollar that men earn qualify as serious discrimination? Its your choice to combine a claim of fact and definition in your essay or focus only on definition or a fact. If you choose a claim of fact, choose any fact that interests you and explore it from your own perspective. Remember, that any paper should have a clear purpose and address a specific audience. So your first step is to clarify the purpose: why should the readers be interested in this fact. You can choose any specific strategy or a combination of strategies, such as causal analysis, argument, evaluation. The only purpose you CANNOT choose is an informative essay where you introduce the topic and present the information about it. Simply put, choose any fact that interests you, introduce it briefly in your intro, examine the fact: what are the causes? What are the effects? Who may affected by the fact? What will be the consequences? Do NOT just inform about the fact, but examine it with a clear purpose. The best strategy will be cause/effect.In this assignment you have to demonstrate the skills youve acquired in evaluating and explaining a certain fact or issue by responding to texts. Your initial purpose should be to discover or learn about your subject. You may choose any social, economic, or political issue that is currently discussed. You may also choose any of the topics we discussed in class. After assessing your rhetorical situation, report your findings and explain why the issue youre examining is important and provide the context for raising the issue. Your purpose is not only to provide your own definition, but to explain something as clearly as possible for your audience by analyzing, showing relationships, and demonstrating with examples, facts, illustrations, data, or other information. Remember not only to report your findings, but also provide the audience with your insights, explanation, and support of your response.Your audience is New York Times readers. Your paper should be at least 4.5-5 pages (1250-1500 words). You must have at least 5 sources from library databases for this paper and submit Works Cited page with your essay.
